What is The HELA Method™ Foundational Program

The HELA Method™ Foundational Program is a structured, 4-month parent-guided developmental program for children with any developmental, neurological, sensory, behavioral, or physical challenge — at any age.

This program is built on the understanding that the nervous system must first become more organized and regulated before higher-level skills can fully develop.

Through consistent, daily implementation, children begin to experience improved calm, body awareness, and the ability to engage more effectively with their environment.

🧠 The Program Focuses On Three Core Areas:

1. Startle System Regulation

Supporting the nervous system in reducing over-reactivity and creating a more stable internal state.

This component focuses on regulating the body’s natural startle response, which plays a key role in how a child experiences safety, stress, and reactivity.

Through specific movement-based patterns, we support the organization of early reflex responses — particularly those related to the startle system (commonly associated with the Moro reflex).

When this system remains overactive, the nervous system can stay in a constant state of alert, making it difficult for regulation, focus, and coordination to fully develop.

By gently supporting this foundational system, the body can begin to shift toward a more calm, regulated, and responsive state.

2-Movement & Balance
Developing coordination, stability, and motor control through structured movement and balance-based activities.

3-Vision & Tracking
Improving visual coordination, focus, and the integration between the eyes and body.

The HELA Method™ Foundational Program — A developmental process that works through you

How the Program Works

🏡 Home-Based Implementation

Parents implement a personalized movement plan at home — approximately 45–60 minutes daily, five days a week. Implementation begins after completing the parent training in the first two weeks.

📩 Structured Video Reviews

Parents submit a short video every two weeks throughout the program. Hela reviews each submission and provides written feedback with any adjustments needed. A check-in call takes place at the program midpoint.

🔄 Consistent, Guided Progression

Rather than following rigid phases, the program works across multiple areas simultaneously — allowing the nervous system, movement, and visual systems to develop together over time.

🌱 Designed for Real Families

This program is designed to meet families where they are — providing structure without overwhelm, and guidance without the need for ongoing sessions.

This program is open to families in California, across the US, and internationally. California families enrolled in the Self-Determination Program (SDP) may be able to use SDP funding — a fit and readiness process applies before enrollment.

How SDP Funding Works

Step 1 — Submit Your Inquiry

Step 2 — Program Details & Documentation

Step 3 — Approval & Getting Started

Families begin by completing the SDP Inquiry form on this page.

This allows us to understand your child’s needs and determine if the HELA Method™ Foundational Program is the right fit for your family.

Once your inquiry is reviewed, you will receive the program details needed for your Self-Determination Plan, including:

  • Service description

  • Program structure

  • Cost breakdown

These details can be shared with your Regional Center team.

You will work with your service coordinator or support team to include HELA Method™ Foundational Program in your child’s SDP spending plan.

Once funding is approved, we will guide you through final enrollment and provide access to begin the program.

This program works with children at any level — whether they cannot walk, cannot speak, cannot regulate, or cannot yet engage. The plan is built individually for each child based on what Hela observes.
